Tel Aviv
City friendship since March 3, 1980; city partnership since March 20, 2017
Tel Aviv was founded in 1909 as a suburb of Yaffo (Jaffa), but quickly developed into the most modern city in the Middle East. Tel Aviv is a vibrant city with a buzzing nightlife, but also a rich cultural scene. It is the most international city in Israel. Many embassies are located there.
Tel Aviv enjoys a close friendship with Frankfurt. The partnership enriches the cultural life of both cities, for example in the form of exhibitions and regular friendship concerts given by choirs and orchestras. A trinational youth exchange was also organised together with Eskişehir in Turkey. This has allowed young Israelis, Turks and Germans to share their views and experience.
The town twinning agreement signed in 2017 took the existing friendship between the cities to a new level.
