The Egyptian capital is also the country's largest metropolis. Located on the Nile, Cairo is the seat of the Arab League. Old Cairo was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The famous Chan el-Chalili Souk is right next door. Cairo is one of the economic hubs of the African continent and is home to Al Azar University.

It was the Egyptian consul general who encouraged the friendship between the cities. Various citizens' trips have been conducted to Cairo, during which participants have been able to marvel at the nearby pyramids. A Frankfurt choir also regularly gives friendship concerts in the Egyptian capital.
