Frankfurt AirportExternal Link is the second largest passenger airport in Europe. Passengers can reach more than 300 destinations around the world. Below you can find an overview of the various options for getting into the city after arriving at Frankfurt airport.

How to get to the City and back from Frankfurt Airport

By Train: Frankfurt Airport has two train stations. The station called "Frankfurt Flughafen Regionalbahnhof“ is for regional trains, the other one, called "Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof“, is for long distance connections. Both offer train connections to Frankfurt and other locations in the region.

From the station "Frankfurt Flughafen Regionalbahnhof“ there are two suburban trains ("S-Bahnen“) connecting the airport with Frankfurt downtown. If you want to reach the city centre, take line S8 in the direction of "Offenbach (Main) Ost“ or line S9 in the direction of "Hanau Hauptbahnhof“. If you want to get back to the airport from the city centre take line S8 or S9, both in the direction of "Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof“.

In any case, you need a valid ticket before getting on the train. Tickets are available from the ticket vending machines on site or online from both providers RMVExternal Link and DB (Deutsche Bahn)External Link.

By Bus: Passengers can use several bus lines to get to the city and back. Please visit Frankfurt Airport BusExternal Link for further information. Depending on the bus provider, tickets can be purchased either at the ticket booths at the airport or on the bus from the driver as well as online from RMVExternal Link and DB (Deutsche Bahn)External Link.

Tip: Travellers also like to use the Frankfurt CardExternal Link or the RheinMainCardExternal Link, which offer them free travel on public transport in Frankfurt, including Frankfurt International Airport, as well as various discounts for attractions and tours in Frankfurt or the region. 

By Car: If you want to get to the city by car, there are airport transfer taxis around the clock. Please find them online or on site at the taxi stops at both terminals and the long-distance train station. Possible stops can be found at P39 Terminal 1 drop-off area and P17 Terminal 2 drop-off area.
