Philadelphia

One of the oldest cities in the USA,
Philadelphia played a central role in the history of American democracy. The
Declaration of Independence was signed here on 4 July 1776. The city has
maintained relations with Germany right from its earliest days. German
immigrants founded the Germantown district shortly after Philadelphia was
established. The city has a strong
financial and IT services sector, and it is also an important logistics hub
thanks to the Port of Philadelphia.
Frankfurt's most recent city partnership is
developing very nicely. Both cities defined potential fields of cooperation
during the first delegation trips. Links
were quickly established between schools in each city. The first groups of
pupils have already been able to discover their respective partner city for
themselves.
