Milan
20. October 1970
Milan is Italy's second city and the country's economic powerhouse. Like Frankfurt, Milan is known for its rich history of banking and finance. The capital of Italian fashion is located in the Lombardy region and is a perpetual magnet for tourists with its many world-famous museums.
In
1970, the new partnership with Milan led to the establishment of the four-way
European alliance with Frankfurt, Lyon and Birmingham. Today, language and
study exchanges are regularly organised by the Volkshochschule (adult
education centre) and the municipal education authority, bringing together
Italian and German learners in both cities.
Various cultural projects round off the city partnership activities. In
2018, a group of Milan-based artists impressed Luminale visitors with their
artful illumination of the Alte Oper concert house.
