Gallileo

The unusual building name “Gallileo” is a combination of the name of the Italian mathematician Galileo Galilei and the Gallusanlage location with its double “l”. The 6-storey base construction also forms the shape of the capital letter “L”, and together with the “Fürstenhof” that lies opposite, creates the impression of an entry portal to Kaiser Street (Kaiserstraße). 

At the time of its construction, the heat insulation function of the approximately 22,000 squares metres of the large transparent façade with its more than 4,000 windows was a technical innovation that did not exist anywhere else in the world. This made it possible to improve heat insulation by 20 per cent.
