Before issuing a death certificate, the Registry Office (“Standesamt”) needs the mortuary certificate ("Leichenschauschein") from the doctor who confirmed the death.

You will receive the mortuary certificate (“Leichenschauschein”) from the doctor who has registered the death. It consists of a confidential and a non-confidential section.
You will receive the confidential section in a sealed envelope, possibly in two different envelopes.
The Registry Office (“Standesamt”) needs all sections of the mortuary certificate to certify a death.
