About us
We offer help
Frankfurt am Main has merged the Youth and Social Welfare offices.
The Youth and Social Welfare Office ("Jugend- und Sozialamt") of the city of Frankfurt am Main is committed to fulfilling the needs and interests of children, adolescents, young adults and families. In the field of youth welfare, the city cooperates with a variety of youth welfare organisations, enabling the office to offer a wide range of services, including education, counselling, health and therapeutic care as well as financial services.
One of the duties of the Youth and Social Welfare Office is to ensure the protection of children and young people. If you are worried about the wellbeing of your or someone else’s child, please contact the Youth and Social Welfare Office, either through your local branch offices of the Youth and Social Welfare OfficeInternal Link (“Sozialrathaus”), or the Frankfurt Child and Youth Protection HotlineInternal Link (“Frankfurter Kinder- und Jugendschutztelefon”). In the case of an emergency, please call the police.
We have a well-coordinated system of support and assistance in the field of social welfare in place, based on the individual life situations. We cooperate with a large number of independent providers and welfare associations. In addition to counselling services, we offer financial assistance if the costs of living cannot be covered by one’s own resources, or if special life situations require help. Social welfare aspires to enable the recipient of assistance to live a full, dignified life, and to enable him or her to live independently.
Basic Allowance / Subsistence Support („Grundsicherung“) are welfare benefits for elderly citizens and people with permanent disabilities. They ensure a dignified livelihood for these respective people. The office that provides these welfare benefits (“Grundsicherungsbehörde”) is also a part of the Youth and Social Welfare Office.
We’re offering our services at our seven local branch offices of the Youth and Social Welfare Office („Sozialrathäuser“), which are organised regionally.
We have set up several specialised subdivisons (“Besondere Dienste”) for some of our duties:
- for particular duties in the field of youth welfare
- for services provided by “offene Altenhilfe” (open care for the elderly) and
- for senior citizens in care homes or similar settings
- for duties related to the Guardianship Act
- for duties regarding vulnerable people (e.g., homeless people or people with substance abuse issues)
- for refugees and non-local people in need of assistance and support
