About the campaign

“Children have the right to a non-violent upbringing.” This is what the law says, more precisely in §1631 of the German Civil Code ("Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch – BGB"). This section specifies Article 19 (protection against the use of violence, abuse, neglect) of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

But what does this seemingly simple sentence actually mean in everyday life? What rules and recommendations are there for parents and other educators? How can the right balance be found in difficult situations? And where can children find help when their rights are at risk? These are precisely the questions addressed in the campaign “Strong through Education” (“Stark durch Erziehung”), which the Frankfurt Children’s Office ("Frankfurter Kinderbüro") and the Child Protection Association for Frankfurt (“Kinderschutzbund Frankfurt”) launched together in 2012. The idea was based on a campaign by the German Child Protection Association in Cologne and a campaign of the same name by the city of Nuremberg, which has since been joined by many other municipalities in Germany and Switzerland.

The aim of the campaign is to put non-violent and good parenting on the agenda everywhere and at all times: in everyday dialogue, as well as at conferences and political debates. For parents and educators, the campaign offers guidance for everyday life. The campaign creates publicity and brings many people together: The campaign has succeeded in establishing a diverse, cross-city network of supporters.

If you have any questions about the campaign, please feel free to contact the Children’s Office by phone (069/212 39001) or email (kinderbuero@stadt-frankfurt.deInternal Link).
