Deregistration from a church

If you wish to deregister from your church, religious or ideological community, please apply in person at one of Frankfurt's Citizens’ Offices. The prerequisite is that you are registered in Frankfurt am Main with your main residence.

Persons who have reached the age of 14 can declare their withdrawal alone, provided they are not legally incapable. Children between the ages of 12 and 14 require the consent of a person with custody of the child, in order to declare their withdrawal. Children under the age of 12 can only be deregistered by a guardian.

You may not be represented by a third party when making the declaration.

Alternatively, you can submit your deregistration from a church in writing to one of Frankfurt's Citizens’ Offices. Please note that any declaration must be submitted in a publicly certified form (through a notary or at the local court) and that the effective date is based on the date of receipt by the Citizens’ Office. In this case, please transfer the administrative fee of € 30.00 to the account below. In order to be able to process your request promptly, please enclose the payment receipt (as proof of payment) with your deregistration.

The administration fee is € 30.00

In the case of a visit in person, the fee has to be paid at the respective Citizens’ Office.

Payments can be made in cash or by card (girocard/debit card).

The deregistration will become effective at the end of the day on which the declaration was signed.

A declaration submitted in writing becomes effective at the end of the day on which it is received by the municipality.
