Shows at the Mousonturm House of Artists (Künstlerhaus Mousonturm) are sometimes eccentric, but always innovative. National and international guest artists from the fields of theatre and dance, performance and music are featured. There are also video and film presentations, as well as literary readings. The Mousonturm House of Artists was opened in 1988 in Frankfurt’s Ostend district. Until 1972, the firm J.G. Mouson & Co. produced perfume and soap there. The expressionist industrial building was erected in 1924/25 – its 9 floors made it the city’s first high-rise building.

The House of Artists is one of Germany’s oldest and most important production and performance sites for free, experimental and innovative theatre. As a platform for young artists, it aims to discover new artistic trends. Part of the concept is educating young artists, providing them with additional training, and promoting them. Whether it involves visual arts, radio plays, literature, new media or film, exhibition, seminar and rehearsal rooms are available to all branches. For projects such as “Plateaux – New Positions of International Representational Art” or the “Summer Lab” the artists can work under professional conditions. This helps develop the institution’s image, which makes people curious and awakens people’s desire for art and communication over the long term.
