International Theatre

Authentic art from their home, performed with heart and soul: this is what artists and ensembles from more than 25 cultures offer in the International Theatre in Frankfurt. 160 events with 100 guest performances are performed every year on stage. They give their fellow compatriots a piece of their homeland and the audience, a cultural insight. This distinguishes the theatre from others in the city and explains its marked diversity.

The heart of the theatre is the native-language speaking theatre with around half of the performances. However, all conceivable types of art are shown and dance theatre plays an increasing important role here. Furthermore, concert evenings, from classical to Klezmer, from chanson to fado, jazz and musical are organised. Exhibitions and readings round off the programme. The theatre also regularly offers events from the German, English, French, Italian and Russian cultures. Every now and then, there are performances from other cultures and linguistic regions on stage. Thanks to its good technical equipment, high degree of flexibility and the pleasant atmosphere in its rooms, this stage for guest performances is also amazingly well suited to social and private events with or without artistic presentations.

The International Theatre was established in its present form in 1998. It is easily accessible in the Zoo-Passage and offers a professional stage with the natural acoustics of a concert hall. It is managed on an honorary basis with only a few salaried employees for technology and sound and for administration. The theatre lives mainly from the commitment of the artists – a project with important functions that has become an essential part of the multi-cultural metropolis.
