Since 2007 the former Frankfurt chief customs office has been converted into part of the Museum für Moderne Kunst. Constructed in 1927 by Werner Hebebrand, the building is located opposite the main museum building and is testimony to a comprehensive historical reform project: comparable to the Bauhaus, the Neues Frankfurt project was one of the first extensive social and urban construction projects of its time – many buildings in Frankfurt as well as products and graphic design elements are closely connected to it. It brought forth numerous public buildings, including the chief customs office.
