Hauptwache (Main Guard-House)

It is only a few more metres to the “Hauptwache”, Frankfurt’s main guard-house. The baroque-style building was built between 1729 and 1731 and gave the square its name. It was once the most important “police station” in the free city of Frankfurt.

Since 1904 the building has been used as a café and the square around the main guard-house has become the centre of the city.
